Context:
Raw water sources & associated purification facilities aligned with projected population is absolutely key to all current & future activity within George as demonstrated during the recent drought, resulting in water restrictions & associated penalties. Concerns regarding the quality of raw water sources will be addressed through the environmental focus area.

The attached graphs clearly reflects a significant increase in consumption which is not aligned to actual population growth.
*Analysis is based on published financial statements and ratios are calculated based on some actual and derived data. While statistical data will improved as more data is being released, the reflected trends however are likely to be maintained
Outcomes:
- GM reported adequate planning, to the sum of approximately R3 billion, to meet the immediate & longer term raw & purified water requirements;
- A panel of advisors on water is now operational;
- The installation of water meters are progressing well with improved monitoring of consumption & associated billing.
Actions Planned :
- The Annual Report regarding ratios between infrastructure maintenance versus income derived from water and associated trends remains outstanding and will be pursued.
- A meeting is scheduled in June with finance cluster to obtain the data to make an evaluation/ response.
